House Dust IPA - Tuesday, November 25, 2025
time I order Cascade hops the AA% is different. I will be using the odd specialty grain
now and then to use them up. You can't taste them in a hop forward beer.

BREW DAY NOTES
1. Checked Mr. Robobrew's temp and it was the same as Mr. Thermopen, so I am good to go.
2. Mashed in at 5:15.
3. Cooling started at 8:30.
4. I got more trub in the carboy than I wanted to. I could of give it more time to settle
but didn't. Next time I should remove the chiller and stir it and wait the extra 45 minutes.
I have done that and still got lots of trub. It will settle on the bottom so I will take a look
later in the day. 64F. Waiting for it to get to 66F before adding yeast.
5. Going good. 68F. Fridge is on. Yes, 2 inches of trub. Next brew you have to give it a stir
and let it settle for 45 min to an hour. You will still get trub, but only an inch. We will see
how this is when kegged.
6. I assume I will have a ton of trub to deal with when I keg it. Fine, I usually have more
beer in the carboy that goes into the keg anyway. Add gelatin and transfer when clear.
7. Still a good sized krausen on top, but having trouble getting the temp to level out. Wall
heater on, door open. 68 F.
8. Been a week. Slowing down at least looking at the krausen. Hanging on 66F - 67F though.
Tough to do in a cool basement temps. I can always move it to finish in the wine room,
but that may be too warm.
9. On Dec. 9, I added 112 grams of Cascade. Keg on Friday, Dec. 12.
10. Added gelatin on Dec. 18.
11. Bought a 20 lb. tank of C02. It was $79 instead of $90 which I will take.
12. Transfer beer on Dec. 24 if you want or even the 25th in the morning and carb up.
BEER IN A KEG AND CARBING UP ON DEC. 25
The gelatin worked very well. i got very little sludge when I used my thumb tap to remove
it before the transfer. I have 1 1/2 kegs of this. I am sure the first one has little hop aroma
since every time you pull the tap C02 comes in along with aroma going out. The nature of
the beast with this style of beer.
KEG ALMOST EMPTY
Today is Jan. 23 and it is tasting quite nice. First IPA that didn't totally lose it's hop aroma.
