Conical 21 lbs. 0i0 1.5 lbs. Brown Malt 1 lb. Crystal 120 8 ozs. Choc Malt 4 ozs. Special III 4 ozs. Roast Barley 33 g Magnum at 60 min. 35 g US-05 O.G. - 1.056 F.G. - % - SRM - 22 BU - 22                                                                   Brew Notes Pretty well a normal brew day. Lots of cleaning after though. Oxiclean in the boiler and the mash tun as this is the first time using them in months. Not as clean as they should of been. Day 1 - Going good today and getting more vigourous as the day goes on. Good sign. Day 2 - Same. Day 3 - Krausen spewing from the blow off hose last night and this morning, but has subsided to a              good and steady fermentation. Dropped the temp to 66 F. Day 5 - Same, but slowing down. Still spewing out stuff. Day 11 -  Slowed right...

Septic Tank - 2020/2021

A new blog about how my septic tank is backing up and trying to figure out why now? I need to get a lighter lid instead of the 200 lb. lids made of concrete that are not easy to move or even check what is going on weekly. Composite lids to me with a handle are the way to go along with expandable foam which will if it works, seal it from all the rain which we of course get here in Ontario get most of the year. The most septic back ups occur during the winter where the septic beds are flooded with water which makes the whole system shut down. This is climate change at its worst. However, the Septic Tabs from the dollar store seem to be doing something. I will post pics from my GoPro camera on a weekly basis if needed. Jan. 25 - Had people over for a nice dinner and the downstairs toilet was flushed and it all came up in                my shower room. Nice, just when you have a ton of dishes to do along with company.         ...

Costco Chardonnay - Friday, May 15, 2020

The other half of the 7 L double bag/box from Costco. This seems to have a different smell than the many times I have made this wine. The wine seems to taste the same after bottling. Will buy again when it is on sale. Should buy some red too. O.G. - 1.092 Day 10 Gravity - .995 F.G. - .995 % -    13 I added the spring water up to the bottom of the first ring in the pail. I seem to get so much yeast/trub on the bottom that I end up with only around 20 bottles. I don't have wine to top up and adding top up water is not what I want to do. This should get me an alcohol of around 11 - 12%. Usually it is around 13% which I don't really care about how much I get anyway.                                             FERMENTATION NOTES ( check gravity on May 25 ) May 18 - 72 F. Turn off heat if it starts to rise. It did, 74 F. Heat off. May 19 - Heat off. Still 72 F. ...

Coopers IPA Beer Kit - Friday, May 8, 2020 - Moistly A Beer

Image
Moistly out of beer and sick of buying it. Way too expensive and inconvenient to buy at these pandemic times. This is 2 kits along with DME and corn sugar. Conical - Need to give it a good clean. I seem to have a ring of something around the top and will boil the valves also. Haven't used this since last September. I noticed some dark deposits around where it starts to get bigger toward the top of the conical. A couple came off, most did not. Not sure what it is. Never noticed it before. 11 gallons 2 Coopers IPA beer kits - ( 3.75 lbs. each ) 2 lbs. Amber DME 1.65 lbs. Lite DME 2.2 lbs. Corn sugar Chinook - ( dry hop ). No idea how much I have. 2 sachets US - 05 Well water that I boiled for 20 minutes in my sparge kettle. O.G. - 1.049 F.G. -  1.008 % -      5.35 SRM - 13.7 BU - No idea Took longer to make this than my usual all grain beer. Way too much LME, DME, cans of malt to heat and cool in the sink. But, I did it, I always do. No gravity re...

Blarney Irish Ale - Monday, May 11, 2020

Image
My original order from Toronto Brewing is still sitting in their store being unfilled because they can't seem to get their act together during this pandemic. Most other HB stores are doing it, so why not them? Epic fail on their part. They should of closed completely down instead of taking my money and shipping nothing. Not ordering from them again. I am no longer brewing lagers or any light style beers again, or not for awhile. Sick of them. This is the style I am going to brew along with American Brown ales if I ever get my hops I bought and paid for in March. Blarney Irish Ale 11 lbs. Simpsons Marris Otter 8 ozs. Briess Crystal 120 8 ozs. Briess Crystal 40 2.25 ozs. Simpsons Roast Barley 2.25 ozs. Special III 28.35 g EKG 7 g German Magnum - ( So I can get more brews out of my short supply of EKG ) US - 05 - Pitched yeast at a cool 64 F. Water Profile - Brown Balanced PH - 5.50 CA - 50  S04 - 70  CI - 56 O.G. - 1.044 F.G. -  1.010 % -...
