Brew Day - October 16, 2008

My Dry Stout is in the fermenters. Just finished cleaning my mash-tun and boiler. Added my water for tomorrow's brew, an English IPA. 3 Dog English IPA 10 Gallons O.G. - 1.050 F.G. - 1.012 IBU - 49.6 SRM - 7.9 % - 5 Mash in @ 150F for 60 minutes. 23 lbs. Canada Malt 1 lb. crystal 1 lb. flaked barley 8 ozs. biscuit 160 grams East Kent Goldings Nottingham yeast This is my first English IPA. I didn't get the efficiency on this beer I wanted. O.G. was only 1.042 % - 3.7. Nice tasting brew anyway.

First Brew Blog

This is a homebrew blog. I will post my recipes, what's brewing? etc.. Since this is my first attempt at a blog, I will tell you about myself. I am a retired GM Oshawa, Ont. worker and live near Peterborough Ont. This blog will tell you what I am brewing and how they turn out. I am going to brew a Dry Stout tomorrow and an English IPA the day after. I am currently still drinking my summer ale ( 4% ). I haven't brewed since September, so I am a bit behind. I base most of my recipes on Jamil Zainaseff and John Palmer's book "Brewing Classic Styles". They are easy and straight forward. My recipes reflect on what I have on hand for ingredients at the time. I am all electric and brew in my garage until November or when turns cold. Here is my dry stout recipe which will be brewed on Oct. 16/08. 14 gallons 3 Dog Dry Stout O.G. - 1.045 F.G. 1.010 % - 4.2 37.8 - SRM 43.4 - IBU Canada Malting 2-row.................................15 lbs.
