House Dust IPA - Friday, October 31st - Halloween - BOO!!

Murphy

Been about a year since Murphy left us. Kind of miss him. He just walked up our laneway and
went to the back deck and stayed there until I let him in. That is all it took. Saw another
cat walk up our laneway on October 15 of this year just the same way as Murphy did. Word got
around I guess.

I am taking an inventory of hops to see what I need for batches up to Xmas. After that?
No idea yet. Marty's smoked beer maybe.

Mr. Robobrew is fixed now and I want a perfect brew day. Today is Halloween which is
a traditional brew day for me.

The mash sparging was very slow. I have to adjust my mill again to get a courser grind.
Same recipe and different results - 1.040 and 1.050.

                                                          BREW DAY NOTES

Day 1 - US-05 pitched at 10:05 AM. Still too dark. Removing the CaraFa III. I thought
about it but wanted to brew the same recipe. Doing it now. I have to use my
other Cascade hops so try not to get them mixed up. Should up the IBU's too.
Not bitter enough, but will taste my previous one for bitterness after clearing it.
Day 2 - No activity as usual the next morning using US-05. Picked up by bedtime.
Day 3 - Going good. 68F.
Day 4 - Same
Day 8 - Slowing down a little. No dry hopping yet. Give it a week. Check daily.
Day 10 - Activity every 15 seconds. Dry hop soon.
Day 12 - Dry hopped.
Day 15 - Keg tomorrow - November 16.
Day 16 - No activity in the carboy. Kegging now.
Day 18 - Add gelatin.
Day 25 - Transfer on Friday, Dec. 4 and carb up.

                               GELATIN ADDED ON NOV. 28

Did a transfer to a keg on Saturday, December 6 and carbing up. Need C02 though.

                                           TASTE AFTER CARBING UP

Good. Took awhile to carb up. Definitely need C02. Needs more of a Cascade hop aroma. More
hops or different amounts or times? I don't want to dry hop in the keg, plugs up the beer tube.
Buy a keg spider? Nope.

                                            SAMPLED ON DEC. 25

Surprisingly still has a nice aroma of Cascade hops. Now the next one is fresher and will see
how the extra ounce is when I taste it. I really should of added them at 3 days before kegging
as doing it at 15 min. may not have the affect I want.
