I am using a very small amount of Roasted grain for colour. Keg this style if you want
to CPBF using your PET bottles. Please do this if you have time because the filler is
just sitting in a box and doing nothing for what? 7 years?
I bought a circuit board and a panel screen and numbered the wires to match up the
new board with the old board. I have to do it exactly the way from the pic and I have
only one chance to do it right. If not? poof!!
Changing the board and screen on Oct. 13. Here goes nothing, don't screw it up!!!!!!!!
Frank and me changed the board. It kind of took 2 people to do it. Looks like the new
board is working good. The temp according to Mr. Robobrew was out by 4 F. ( too high ).
It was showing 73F and I had to calibrate it down to 69F according to the temp of water.
After cleanup I added 1 gallon of water. Turned it on and it read 64F. My thermopen
read 63F. I really should go back to Celsius because it seems to be more accurate. It
was made by a country ( Australia ) other than the big bad US who are stupid to go to
Celsius.
I need to toss in some oxiclean in Mr. Robobrew, along with any stained parts.
BREW DAY NOTES
I went with a grain/water ratio too low. The mash level kept rising and when I turned
down the pump, the circulation slowed down a lot. So, go with around 1.90 for now on.
I lost my Warrior hops. Gone. Used Magnum instead.
Pitched US-05 @ 10:30 AM.
Next Morning - Lots of foam but no airlock activity. SS elbow seems tight. Leave it.
Started some activity around 10 AM. Added tefloc tape to the elbow
which is inserted into the bung and that helped to seal it better and
now I get bubbles out of the blow off hose. It is not needed, but helps.
Day 2 - Going good. Everything seems back to normal now.
Day 3 - Same.
Day 8 - Still some activity. Getting close to the 3 day addition of hops.
Day 10 - Krausen has dropped. Keg soon as I dry hopped on Oct. 23.
Day 11 - Dry hops are falling. Keg soon since this is day 3 and I am too busy.
Should take a look at kegging tomorrow - Oct. 26.
But, there is still activity going on. I have to take it day to day.
Day 13 - Activity every 20 seconds or so. Keg in 3 days? So much for dry hopping
ADDED GELATIN ON SUNDAY, NOV. 2ND
TRANSFER AND CARBED ON SUN NOV. 9
I got a little trub in the keg as it wasn't full, but not much. It will sink to the bottom.
I didn't taste it but it did have a strong smell of Cascade hops which is good.
NEXT UP ON NOV. 20 - STOREY STOUT
Sampling it now. I realize it is too dark and may be tasting the roasted grain in this which
is not acceptable. My next IPA will be better. Not as dark as I thought. Not carbed. You
have to turn the valve on stupid.
