Apple Cider Kit - Mangrove Jack - Monday, March 21, 2022 - Covid.
Nothing much to say, heated 3 l of spring water to near hot, added it to the plastic fermenting pail. Added the corn sugar and Apple Extract. Rinsed it too. Did not take a gravity, don't care either. Took an hour or so to put together. No boiling anything, I just heated 3 L of spring water to help with the cider extract to mix in.
Ingredients
Apple Jacks Cider Extract
2 lbs. corn sugar
Mangrove Jack's Cider Yeast
100% Spring Water
O.G. - 1.050 - ( Most makers on you tube had this gravity, I didn't do one )
F.G. - 1.006
% - 5.8
Day 1 - Done at 9:30 am when I pitched the yeast.
Day 2 - Going good. 72 F.
Day 3 - 76 F. Turned down wall heater. Room smells great, a nice apple aroma.
Day 7 - Seems to be done. Will let it sit another week if I can't get to it because I am busy.
I also have Covid so I have to keg it and I can add gelatin the next day but that will be all
I am going to do with it until this illness leaves my body.
Seems to be done. Keg on April 4. May as well filter it and cpbf in your plastic bottles you have never used. Kegging it today. We both have covid so I will keg it and add gelatin when I feel better. I have to keg it now though, it has been 2 weeks.
TASTE ON KEGGING DAY
First off, it smells meaty. Autotlsys? Would leaving it in the primary for 2 weeks cause this? I doubt it. I will add gelatin and transfer to another keg and age it awhile to see how it is. I don't need it until June anyway. I can't taste anything anyway. I do not know if I added gelatin to this or not. Taking a sample on May 5th, so if I did, it will be very clear.
SAMPLED ON MAY 5
Okay, but not appley enough. I added half the sweetener to it as I didn't want to make it too sweet and I didn't know what the results would be. Very clear though, so I must of added gelatin. I don't think I will buy it again, but it sure was easy to make, easier than wine and beer. I added a cup or so of corn sugar to the keg and it of course foamed up all over the floor because of the C02. Taking a sample the next day if it clears up. This may not of been a good idea, should of used a sweetener but I didn't have any. It worked!! Nice and not too sweet.
