Chris's Pub Ale - January 2, 2020

Had to delay brewing because of the freezing rain. This is a Session beer using up all my Cascade hops to make room for mostly lagers and bitters. Not sure which one I will brew most.

KEGGING UNDER C02 FROM CARBOY TO KEG

I have issues with the taste in my last 4 brews. Not sure if it is oxidation or not. Just an odd and unpleasant taste. I have had the orange carboy cap for years but have never used it. Went to You Tube and watched how they do it. I think I can do it. Better to do it on this beer than my lager in a few days to see if it works out okay. At least I can eliminate oxidation if this works out and keep trying to find out where the off flavour is coming from.

Hey Matey!!!

Ingredients

11 lbs. UCM
1 lb. Munich I
26 g Cascade at 60 min.
60 g Cascade hop stand ( 5 min after knock out )
US-05 Slurry 2nd Generation
Water Profile - Chris's Pub Ale
PH - 5.30

Basic brewing day, doing nothing out of the ordinary. The last one seems odd, but I think it either needs aging or Blonde Ales are just not my forte. My last Blonde Ale ever. Done, moved on...

SRM - 3.7
BU - 21

                                                                             BREW NOTES

A good brew day and nothing went wrong for some reason. Added the 0 addition of Cascade hops approx. 5 minutes after the chilling was started.

That Night - Started bubbling when I went to bed. Slow though.
Jan 3 - Almost the same thing - 64 F. May turn on the heater, but will have to keep an eye on it. I
still have a lager down there, but the D-rest is pretty well done.
Jan. 7 - 64 F. Yeast slowed down. Heat on to 68 F. More active. Keg around Jan. 16 or so.
Jan. 10 - Keg in a few days. No hurry if you are going to use this yeast again. Take a good sample
to see if you want to use this yeast, if not, cancel the next brew day.
Jan. 12 - Not much activity, but it is cool down there. Since there is all ice outside, I may keg this
               today.

                                                            KEGGED ON SUNDAY JAN 12

Cleared in a few days and this one hasn't got that pastey/oxidized taste which the last what? 4 did. I was careful when I kegged them all, so wtf? Anyway, I am using the orange cap to push beer into kegs when I use the carboy for now on. This is a light, mellow beer. Great for a nice, sunny, summer day which is many months away. Gone now, but the hop aroma was not quite there. Other than that, this was an okay beer.
