Maggie Blonde Ale - Sunday, November 22, 2020 ( Tossed )

 Robobrew

Another shot at a blonde ale. This time with new malt and a new water profile. If it sucks, well, this style will be my last. Yes, it sucks. I have no idea why everytime I brew this style of beer, it is just bad. Never again.

                                                                    Brew Notes

A normal brew day. Nothing went wrong, but of course, clean up during the winter sucks. Do what you have to do though. I got like 1 - 2 gallons of murky trub in the carboy. This wort would just not totally clear. I did a whirlpool, but it was just too slow to clear. It is the new malt, or the water profile. It really doesn't matter when the beer tastes good cause it all gets dumped when I keg it anyway. I finally saw some ferment activity on Monday night. I knew though, that it would be slow and 64F. US-05 is a slow starting yeast at 68F anyway, so, it is good to see it going. Smells great, actually kind of bready.

Day 5 - Slow but steady. Most likely be done around day 16 or so. I can toss it on the bench. It got

mixed up and is not clearing very well since then. Do not care, keg when done.

                                                      KEGGED ON DEC 6

Seems okay, much better than the last blonde ale that tasted smoky. All in the water I guess. Carbed some up in a 2 L pop bottle. No malt taste or very low and quite bitter. My last blonde ale as it is a beer only me and Frank will drink. I am lowered the bitterness in all of my pale beers to around 20 - 22 BU.
