1437 Pilsner

First time brewing this. Not a big difference between this and a Helles, mainly more hops. I will use UCM for a few test batches and if I like it I will buy a sack of Pils malt in London in April.

Ingredients

12 lbs. UCM
1 lb. Carahell
63 g Hallertauer - 3.4% AA at 60 min.
60 g Hallertauer - 3.4% AA at 30 min.
42 g Hallertauer - 3.4% AA at 10 min.
30 g Hallertauer - 3.4% AA at 0 min.
WLP833 Slurry - Generation 3, not washed just tossed on top of my Helles
which I am kegging on brew day.

O.G. - 1.053
F.G. -
% -
SRM - 4.4
BU - 40
PH - 5.30

Water Profile - Same as my Helles and all lagers.

May be taking a chance on using the yeast slurry like this but I have no other yeast and busy doing the living room so here goes nothing. I am confident it will work fine.

                                                     BREW DAY NOTES

Forgot the brewing salts for a few minutes. I didn't bring out my reminder notes. I did get it in time though, just a couple of minutes. Other than that, a good brew day. Wow!! The hops in this beer!!! A bloody shit load for sure. I hope I get more of a noble hop bitterness and aroma than my Helles. That beer is very clean, but too clean. Not much of a hop taste at all. I think I am done brewing a Helles for now. Most likely Storey Steamer for the rest of the year unless this beer is fine, but I still like SS.

Jan 10 - Going good that evening.
Jan 11 - Same.
Jan 12 - More active, some blow off hose action.
Jan 13 - Same.
Jan. 14 - Same.
Jan. 15 - D rest.
Jan 16 - Sampled today. Not happy. No taste, like nothing. Either the yeast was
used too many times, or the brewing salts did not do anything when I
was 5 minutes too late adding them.

                                          KEGGED ON FRIDAY JAN 25

This has a wonderful hop aroma. Finally. Took a lot of hops to do it. Almost 8 ozs. per batch. If that what it takes, that what it takes I guess. Carbed up on Wed Jan 30. Okay, but not what I was expecting. I am going with Storey Steamer as my go to beer for 2019. The odd bitter if it turns out okay, but SS all of this year. Maybe a slight variation with the hops though. May finish with any "C" hop to change things up a bit.

                                        TASTING NOTES

Not a good beer at all. I didn't clear it as it isn't worth doing. This has an odd taste which I think is hop related. Too much 60 min hops? Not sure, but this beer is off my brewing list. Helles is off the list too. Storey Steamer is my go to beer for 2019. This beer is changing on a daily basis. It has a slight weird taste at the moment. Not a bad beer, just a bit odd tasting. Almost gone and good riddance.
