Maggie Kolsch Starter

I can do a one step starter in my 5 L flask. There is a change of plans due to being busy.
I made a small starter just to update the yeast before it gets too old.

Made a 1.4L starter. ( used all of my DME I had )
I ended up with basically 200 billion cells. That will sit in the fridge until I can top it up
to brew a Kolsch in July sometime. I have to let it slide for 17 days and make another
starter just for brew day.

On July 12, make a 4 L starter and when done, remove 500 ml for an over build. Done.
After this I can just make a simple starter when ever I want. If
you want to brew earlier, just do it. The few days won't make a difference in the size of
your starter. You won't need all 4 litres of starter wort, just do it to have lots so if there
is any delay, you will be okay. You won't be brewing your Kolsch before company on
Aug. 9, so you won't be rushed.

UPDATE ON MY 1.4 L STARTER

I checked the gravity on July 15 and it was 1.004. So it did do something. I put it
in the fridge with a bung and will make a starter around Aug. 12 or so. Should be
able to make this the following weekend if I clean all of my valves and get the
Conical ready. I do have a month to do it.

                                               ANOTHER UPDATE

Since I have doubts about my Helles ( diacetyl ), I went ahead and made a 4 L starter
on July 16. I have to get this brewed before camping. It is finished. I removed 500 ml
and put the rest in the fridge on Thursday morning at 7 am on July 18. Should be able
to pitch it sometime on the evening of July 20 or even July 21 in the morning. It is not
clearing up in the fridge very fast. Yes, I do have yeast, but it doesn't look like a lot. I
will go ahead and pitch what I got I guess, no choice.

Your next Kolsch will be brewed sometime around Aug. 17. That may change though.
Things seem to change a lot around here, so remain flexible.
