Storey Steamer - July 31st, 2022 - Unpleasant Malt Taste Again

This beer had a high FG using that stupid MJ yeast. Tossed the remaining yeast out. This will be a fuller bodied beer and it is all I have at the moment. Way too busy to brew but will try to brew something. Next up is House Dust IPA. Will post a tasting of this beer around August 25 or so.

Taste After Clearing - Sucks so far

Carbed up a 2 L bottle just to have a taste to see if it is any good to serve Les on Sept. 2nd. Not very good at all. Again, that strange taste is there just like my lager had. The only beer that seems normal is my AIPA beers. I guess I will just make them and over build my yeast for my bitter and give it a shot. If it sucks, I will not continue to make it and just go with AIPA beers. Hope it changes. I have around 11 days to get this to turn around to a drinkable beer. If not, will not serve it on Sept. 2 - 3.

Carbing up a keg on Tuesday, Aug. 23

Takes 2 days or more with this new regulator. I have it up to 30 psi. The old one went way higher but now they want well over $100 when it used to be around $75. This one was $80 but not a high psi regulator. No matter, it will get there. Just another example of companies price gouging.

                                                          FINAL TASTING

Not what I wanted. I do think I added EKG hops instead of German Hallertauer because I still have the Hallertauer in the freezer. Nevertheless, this is a drinkable beer. No funny taste, well, maybe a bit but that was my recipe I guess. No astringent odd taste and that is a good thing as my track record for batches must be below 500 by now. Looking back on both brew systems the last few years and I really got just awful results no matter what the recipe is.

The second keg has that funny malt taste. It will go away, but most likely not this weekend. Dam. I need to defrost my freezer and fridge so then will be a good time to toss this mess if I see it won't be turning around anytime soon. Tossing out all of the older unopened malt from OBK that I have had for a year or more. Just using my new Brown and Crystal 40.  I stopped getting that unpleasant malt taste when I stopped buying malt from OBK. The MOB mentioned that they sell stale malt because they are mostly an equipment retailer and sell ingredients on the side. They don't sell enough to keep the stock fresh. Yea, I found that out.
